October, 1999:
Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. Here is another view of
what 54Z looked like the first time I saw it. Note the
lack of wheel pants. Cleon mentioned to me that he had
a set but since he was flying off a grass field, he had not
put them on. Cleon and I negotiated the sale and I
contracted him to paint the wheel pants white to match and
installing them as well as doing some additional work on the
aircraft. Part of the pre-sales activities
included having an annual inspection performed at Skyhaven
Airport, Inc., in Tunkhannock, PA. A few minor
items were repaired including having the nose strut rebuilt,
repairing a mag P-lead and a cracked primer line.
Aside from these few items, the aircraft checked out OK and
we made plans to ferry the aircraft from Pennsylvania to
California in November.
